Don't stand squared!
This is common knowledge and defending 101. When going to press a player you always force him towards one side. The only way to do that is to block one side and that can only happen if you face slightly sideways and show him one side to dribble into. If you stand relatively squared and are showing him two options, he's either going to go into any one side, or he'll play it through your legs as you can't do anything if he does.
I have recently done this quite a bit and it's annoying because I know what to do and it was a habit for me to force the player one side and stay side one. Now in desperation to get the ball I've been going squared onn and I'm not really achieving anything cause they play it through my legs. I can get the same if not faster reaction time if I was side onn, as I can turn and accelerate quicker than if I were squared onn.
Also I need to decide which side I want to force the player to play and then cover the opposite side.
That's it
