What to start with first in the gym

I was doing a normal workout this week and one of the trainers there just asked my what I did before the compound movement that I was doing at the moment that he asked me. I said I did a few exercises, most of them happened to be isolation exercises. 

He then told me to start my workouts with compound movements. I explained to him that I start with isolation exercises for the shoulder so that I feel they are warmed up for a compound movement like bench pressing. But then I researched and found quite a few articles saying doing compound movements at the beginning of your workout helps increase overall strength, as you haven't torn any muscle tissue yet.

So I'm going to try and re organize my workout plan in terms of the order that I do my exercises.                That's it.
