Waiting for the mistake

 How do you defend a 1v1 situation? 

1. Quick pressure on the player, get close to him quick but keep a good distance so you don't get beat easily. slow down around 5 yards from him to avoid getting too close. 

2. Delay him, slow him down and take away his pace but keep moving back slightly with him, wait for support to arrive. 

3. Wait and pounce, don't dive into the tackle, wait for him to make a mistake. Watch for when the ball is exposed, when he takes a long touch or fumbles over the ball. That's when you go in for the tackle.
