Pressing to win the ball
I realise that I don't win the ball much when I go to press an opponent with the ball. So I talked with my coach and this is what he says.
The first problem is that I don't close the angle enough. I partially cut one side and press, there's still a little space where he can pass in that direction. I need to cover that slightly more.
The second thing is I kind of spread my legs and try to cover both sides, that is almost useless because I don't properly block one side and that gives him two options at all times. I need to be covering one side completely and then go towards him. If he goes in the other direction I can still go after him while blocking one side completely.
Related to the point above instead of trying to block two sides I need to think about winning the ball. This means that I need to go straight for the ball. I need to think of winning it not blocking the pass. That way I'm trying to stop the possibility of the pass even being made.
That's it
