Dribble with speed
It is a fact that dribbling without the ball is faster. So when people say take a touch with every step, they mean in close dribbling cases. When in tight spaces taking a touch with every step makes sense because you can change direction when you need to go faster. Or when you're taking someone on 1v1, because there you'll need to keep the ball close so that you don't give him a chance to steal it. All of this makes you slow while dribbling. If you do this when you're dribbling down the line at this pace you won't go anywhere without the defender catching up to you. How do you go faster?.
Take longer touches. As we established above running without the ball is way easier, so take longer touches and run without the ball coming in your way. I'm not asking you to push it so far out that someone else has the chance to get it. Push it further than you usually would, this will give you more time to run freely without the ball, but also make sure that you don't give the ball away.
Dribble without the ball to dribble faster.
That's it
