Running with purpose

I recently read a small news blog thing on Arsenal's manager talking about his striker. He was talking about how important it is now that the striker is making runs with more purpose and how that is leading the team by example and is also a more efficient way of pressing.

I have mentioned in the past that my teammates have told me not to let the ball through otherwise there's no point in me pressing.  This is because the runs I make are a lot of the time not purposeful and are therefore are a waste of energy.

I need to choose when to press, I need to think what I'll be blocking when I do press and also where I want him to go. If I know where I want him to pass or to go, I can press from the opposite of that direction and I'll also have a better idea of how my teammate can help to push him. That'll then need communication and will be a more organized press.

I will also try to analyze how he does, the manger said this recently and there's no chance the last 1-2 matches will be available full so next Sat when I watch the Arsenal game I'll observe how he presses and what I can do. I'll also observe how he tells his wingers to press so that I know what to do in my position.

That's it

  1. I agree. Personally i think any press that is only one person pressing / involved is most probably a waste. Any coordinated press between few of the forwards - can be so so effective
