Defender Shield

This is something I saw in one of the England Inside training videos. The assistant coach was talking to the players and telling them to use the defender as a shield to block the goalkeepers view.

Basically you get the shot off close to the defender but from behind him so that the keeper has a hard time guessing where the shot is going. One thing I noticed is that the players still have a part of the goal in sight, it's not like they're trying to blindly bend it around the defender. They find a spot where they can shoot it at and not give the shot away to the keeper. Another thing is they almost always push the ball out and then take a shot, not too far out just a step out, enough to set up yourself for the shot. This happened to me during training on Wednesday, the ball was under me and not far out enough for me to get a proper swing and therefore it was not as I wanted it to be.

That's it
