Should you stretch when you have sore muscles?

My right leg started paining after a tough workout on Thursday. It was painful when I walked up the stairs and stood on it. I know that when you have sore legs it would help if you did some active recovery like swimming and muscle activation. However I had a question on whether I should stretch my muscles while they are sore. Because if your muscles are sore, that means it is torn from the workout. Therefore your muscles need to repair itself, stretching does the opposite; it's elongating it, tearing it more. Or that's what I thought.

I did some research and Most of them say the same thing. stretching sore muscles is one of the best things to do (along with active recovery). When muscles are sore they are usually tight, stretching makes it flexible and relaxes the muscle. When tension is released it increases oxygen flow to the muscle, which can reduce lactic acid (lactic acid is what gives the burning sensation while working out. however it isn't there the day after your workout).

So the verdict here is that stretching when you have muscle soreness is completely fine. It won't damage your muscles and cause an injury. I think you should do active recovery even if you're stretching, because they both increase blood flow which will help you. If there is still someplace tight then use a foam roller and release muscle (I think you should foam roll as much as possible).

That's it I hope you got something out of this.
