Close control and 1V1 dribbling
Close control and 1V1 dribbling
1. Go straight at the defender: By going straight at the defender you make two options on either side of the defender. Whereas if you go to the side, he can cut of the other side and trap you.
2. Speed of approach: To get past the defender you'll have to be unpredictable. Changing speed every few second will keep the defender on his toes and keep him guessing. Giving you the opportunity to get past him and burst into open space. Using the toes and nudging the ball while dribbling gives close control and more influence over the ball.
3. Eyes: Where do I keep my eyes? the best place would be at the defenders feet/hips observing his movements and reactions. A lot of people (Including me are not comfortable handling the ball without looking at it) So a alternative to watching the hips is the space between the ball and defenders legs.
4. Use the weak side: The weak side of a defender is the back. getting the ball towards that side is making your job easier, because now the defender has to turn 180 degrees and then chase you.
My self evaluation: What am I doing right? I don't think I'm doing anything right. What am I doing wrong? I kinda have a plan in mind when I go in, putting me under pressure if that option closes. I maintain the same speed.
